This project aims to explore young people’s experiences, perceptions, and hopes over the use of AI in social care to discover and design equitable, kind and purposeful AI-based products and services.
In 2021, UNICEF consulted adolescents worldwide about their Artificial Intelligence (AI) perspectives. Some adolescents "stated strongly that decision-making about AI is adultcentric" and "most had low awareness of the risks associated with AI." Overall, there was a strong sense that most adolescents wanted to be heard and involved in AI development.
This project stems from an intent to augment young people's voices and inspire intentional action from the privileged position of designing how people interact with these technologies. It draws on Spyrou's call for critical reflexivity in childhood studies and ethical commitment to producing meaningful knowledge that positively impacts children's lives.
